Student Quarantine Expectation Spring 2021

Per the Vermont Department of Health, residents of Vermont who have not recently traveled out of state and who are not traveling to campus via public transportation are strongly encouraged, but not required, to quarantine.

All other students must quarantine before the start of the Spring 2021 semester.

Where Will You Be Living When You Arrive in Vermont?

I will be living off-campus

I will be living on-campus

How Will You Be Traveling to UVM?

I will drive to campus without any prolonged stops

I will make a prolonged stop on the way to campus

I will need to take a plane, train, or bus to get to campus

FYI - A "prolonged stop" includes places where others gather, such as restaurants; but does not include limited stops for gas and food.

Your Result: Quarantine Prior to Arrival

Please review the below options for completing your quarantine.

As a student traveling directly to campus without any prolonged stops you may elect to either:

quarantine at home for 14 days immediately prior to traveling to campus
end quarantine early after receiving negative results from a molecular test taken on or after day 7 of quarantine and travel directly to campus

Regardless of which option you choose, all students are required to:

Take UVM's pre-arrival COVID-19 test before arriving on campus (this information will be sent to your UVM E-mail address).
Continue their quarantine until they arrive at UVM.
Upon arrival, you will receive a “Day 0” COVID-19 test, provided by the University, and
Begin your required every-seven-days testing cycle.

As a student traveling directly to campus without any prolonged stops you may elect to either:

quarantine at home for 14 days immediately prior to traveling to campus
end quarantine early after receiving negative results from a molecular test taken on or after day 7 of quarantine and travel directly to campus

Regardless of which option you choose, all off-campus students are required to:

Take a “Day 0” test at the Testing Center in the Davis Center between January 25-January 31
Also take a pre-arrival COVID-19 test before your planned “Day 0” test (information will be sent to your UVM E-mail address).
Begin your required every-seven-days testing cycle the first week of class.

FYI – Students able to travel to campus without any prolonged stops will not be able to quarantine on campus due to capacity restrictions.

Your Result: Quarantine After Arrival

Please review the below options for completing your quarantine.

Individuals must quarantine upon arrival for 14 days or they can end their quarantine early after receiving negative results from a molecular test taken on or after day 7 of quarantine. You are still required to take UVM's at-home pre-arrival COVID-19 test before arriving on campus to quarantine (additional information will be provided to student UVM E-mails), and continue your quarantine until you arrive.

You have two options for your quarantine:

OPTION 1: complete your quarantine with UVM in a location designated by the university (testing and meals delivered on site) under the following conditions:

you must arrive on-campus on January 19th and drop off belongings in your permanent room and then immediately report to your quarantine location where you will receive a COVID-19 test, provided by UVM
you must remain in your designated quarantine location and meals will be included
you will be required to take a COVID-19 test on day 7
if/when the test result is negative (day 8 or 9 of quarantining) you may move into your permanent room assignment

OPTION 2: at a lodging property including short-term rentals or hotels in Vermont

Any on campus students not completing pre-arrival quarantine through UVM will need to do the following:

Inform the COVID-19 Information and Service Center in advance.
Students may be asked to provide information or documentation about their quarantine arrangements to the COVID-19 Information and Service Center and may not be permitted to move into the residence halls if it is determined that the quarantine process did not meet Vermont Department of Health guidelines on quarantine.
On campus isolation space is not available to students who test positive.
Prior to being permitted to move into the residence halls, these students will need to provide appropriate documentation of negative results from the pre-arrival test.
Students are required to take a Day 0 test the day they move into the residence halls followed by a Day 7 test.

Off-campus students are also required to:

Take a "Day 0" test at the Testing Center in the Davis Center between January 25-January 31.
Begin your required every-seven-days testing cycle the first week of class.

Please note: Off-Campus students living locally have access to free testing throughout the break period.
